My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going.
I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end. Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think that I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so.
But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you.
And I hope that I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire. And I know that if I do this, you will lead me by the right road though I may know nothing about it. Therefore I will trust you always though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death; I will not fear, for you are ever with me, and you will never leave me to face my perils alone.

—Thomas Merton
“Thoughts in Solitude”

Bedtime Prayer
This prayer was written for my son, Zac.

As I go to bed tonight I pray
Thank you God for this wonderful day,
Thank you for making me healthy and kind
Thank you for giving me this brilliant mind

Thank you for loving me no matter what
And for teaching me how to love others a lot.
Now as I lay down my head and get ready to sleep
Hold me in your arms in your safety to keep.

TRANSFORMATION
by Diane Robinson

Once dejected and heartbroken
Soul sick and as blind as could be
Mistakes repeated over and over
My responsibility I could not see.

One day I discovered Unity
There to my total surprise
I learned all that I ever wanted
Was right there in front of my eyes.

To have it I had to believe it.
Change was so easy to do.
It required a shift in my thinking
Affirmations to make dreams come true.

Just deny what I no longer needed
Affirm what I wanted life to bring
Focus my thoughts on the positive
Turn off my radio to sing.

I know I deserve so much goodness
I believe it and therefore I see
I'm not the same person I once was
Now that God is expressing through me.

The Answer
by Lowell Fillmore

When for a purpose I had prayed and prayed and prayed
Until my words seemed worn and bare with arduous use,
And I had knocked and asked and knocked and asked again,
And all my fervor and persistence brought no hope,
I paused to give my weary brain a rest and ceased my anxious human cry.
In that still moment, after self had tried and failed,
There came a glorious vision of God’s power,
And, lo, my prayer was answered in that hour.

THE PRAYER OF FAITH
by Hannah Moore Kohaus

God is my help in every need,
God does my every hunger feed.
God walks beside me,
Guides my way,
Through every moment of the day.

I now am wise, I now am true,
Patient kind and loving, too.
All things I am, can do and be,
Through Christ, the Truth, that lives in me.

God is my health,
I can't be sick!
God is my strength,
Unfailing --- quick!

God is my all,
I know no fear.
Since God, and Love,
And Truth are here.
Amen.
